How to extract audio online

How to extract audio from a video

The video stays on your device. FlowPick reads its media tracks, lets you choose the audio you need, and creates the output locally.

1

Choose a video file

Select an MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI, MPEG or M4V file stored on your device.

2

Select an audio track

If the video contains more than one audio track, choose the language or track you want to save.

3

Choose an output format

Keep Original audio for fast extraction without re-encoding, or convert the track to MP3, M4A, WAV or FLAC.

4

Extract and download

Process the selected track in your browser, then save the completed audio file to your device.

Extract instead of converting

Extract audio without losing quality

A video file is a container that can hold separate video and audio tracks. For example, an MP4 may contain H.264 video and AAC audio. If you only need the sound, FlowPick can copy the AAC packets into an M4A audio container without decoding and encoding them again. This is usually faster and avoids another generation of lossy compression.

Choose MP3, M4A, WAV or FLAC only when the destination requires that format. Conversion is useful for compatibility or editing, but it cannot restore detail that was already removed from a compressed source.

Choose the best audio format

The right output depends on where the audio will be played, edited or stored. Original audio is the safest starting point when no specific format is required.

FormatBest forRe-encoding
OriginalFast extraction while keeping the source codecNo
MP3Maximum compatibility, sharing and uploadsYes
M4A (AAC)Efficient playback and Apple-oriented workflowsYes, unless the original AAC track is kept
WAVEditing and uncompressed PCM workflowsYes
FLACLossless storage after decodingYes

Not sure which format to choose? Keep Original audio for the fastest extraction with no unnecessary quality loss.

Supported video and audio formats

FlowPick reads common media containers through your browser. Actual support depends on the structure and codecs inside each file, not only its extension.

Input video formats

Extract audio tracks from common video containers including MP4, WebM, MOV and MKV.

MP4 · WebM · MOV · MKV · AVI · MPEG · M4V

Output audio formats

Keep a compatible source track or create a new file in one of the available audio formats.

Original · MP3 · M4A / AAC · WAV · FLAC

Some uncommon codecs, damaged files and unusual container combinations may not be readable. Converted output also depends on the decoding and encoding capabilities available in this browser.

MP4

Extract audio from MP4

MP4 describes the container, not one fixed audio format. Many MP4 videos contain H.264 or H.265 video with an AAC audio track. FlowPick inspects the tracks inside the file. When AAC can be preserved, Original audio places it in an M4A container without another lossy encode. If you need wider compatibility, choose MP3 instead.

WebM

Extract audio from WebM

WebM files commonly pair VP8, VP9 or AV1 video with Opus or Vorbis audio. Original audio can copy a compatible Opus or Vorbis track into an OGG container. Choose MP3 when the destination does not support those codecs.

Extract a specific audio track

MOV and MKV files, and some MP4 videos, may contain commentary, alternate languages or different channel layouts. FlowPick lists the audio tracks detected in the container with codec, language, channel count, sample rate and bitrate details so you can choose the right one before extraction.

The first release extracts one selected track at a time. This keeps the filename and output settings clear while still supporting videos that contain several audio tracks.

Private, browser-based audio extraction

FlowPick reads and processes the selected video locally on your device. The video does not need to be uploaded to a remote conversion server. Processing speed and maximum practical file size therefore depend on this device's browser, CPU and available memory.

Audio Extractor FAQ

How do I extract audio from a video?

Choose a video file, select the audio track you want, keep Original audio or choose a conversion format, then start extraction. The result is created locally in your browser and can be downloaded when processing finishes.

Can I extract audio from MP4?

Yes. FlowPick reads the audio tracks stored inside supported MP4 files. A common AAC track can usually be extracted into M4A without re-encoding, or converted to MP3, WAV or FLAC.

Can I convert a video to MP3?

Yes. Select MP3 as the output format and FlowPick will decode the chosen audio track and encode an MP3 file. If you do not specifically need MP3, keeping Original audio is usually faster and avoids unnecessary quality loss.

Can I extract audio without losing quality?

Choose Original audio. When the source codec fits a supported audio container, FlowPick copies the encoded audio packets without re-encoding them. This preserves the source track's encoded quality; it does not improve an already compressed recording.

What is the difference between extracting and converting audio?

Extraction separates an existing audio track from the video container and can preserve its codec. Conversion decodes that track and encodes it in another format, which may improve compatibility but takes longer and can introduce loss when the target is MP3 or AAC.

Can I extract audio from WebM or MKV?

Yes when the browser can read the container and the selected track uses a supported codec. WebM often contains Opus or Vorbis audio, while MKV can contain a wider range of codecs. FlowPick reports a clear error when a combination cannot be processed.

Can I choose a specific audio track?

Yes. When a video contains multiple audio tracks, FlowPick lists them separately. Choose one track by language, codec, channel layout or bitrate before starting extraction. The first release processes one selected track at a time.

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. File analysis, extraction and optional audio conversion run locally in your browser. FlowPick does not send the selected video to a processing server.
