MP4 · MOV · WebM · MKV · M4V — requires an audio track your browser can decode
A smaller model for a first try. Model weights download roughly 40–150 MB, depending on processing mode. It may miss words, especially in noisy or multilingual recordings.
Auto will use CPU because the browser cannot confirm a suitable discrete GPU. You can still choose GPU manually.
Auto mode detects the language from the first section with speech and uses it for the rest of the recording. If the result is uncertain, choose the spoken language manually. The model and runtime download on first use. Starting again replaces the current transcript.
Chinese recognition and writing style are separate. Choose Simplified or Traditional Chinese for display, copying and exports. You can switch after transcription without running recognition again.
How to transcribe a video
Choose a video
Select or drop a local video. The tool checks its audio track and reads it in sections, without saving a separate full-length audio file.
Recognize the speech
Choose the language, Chinese writing style and model. First use downloads the model. Follow progress or cancel at any time.
Review and export
Click timestamps to review the original video and correct names or terminology. Export TXT for notes, or SRT and VTT for subtitles.
Keep the video on your device
Transcribe speech from MP4, MOV and WebM videos
The tool reads the primary audio track and runs Whisper in sections inside your browser. The picture is used for preview and review, not speech recognition. Text stays in the spoken language, with Simplified or Traditional Chinese output available. If automatic language detection is uncertain, choose the language manually. Review and export the transcript; summaries, translation and on-screen text recognition are not included.

Which video files can be transcribed?
An extension alone does not guarantee support: the container must be readable and its audio track decodable. The primary audio track is used; selecting alternate tracks or reading existing subtitles is not supported.
| Video input | Typical source | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| MP4 / M4V | Phone videos, lessons and edited exports | AAC audio is common; actual support depends on your browser |
| MOV | Camera and phone recordings | AAC or PCM tracks may work; not every MOV codec is supported |
| WebM | Screen recordings and browser capture | Usually Opus or Vorbis audio; requires browser decoding support |
| MKV | Multi-track videos and archives | Only the primary audio track is used; unsupported codecs need conversion |
Make spoken video content easier to revisit
Lessons and lectures
Keep a transcript of spoken explanations, revisit passages and correct terminology. The output is a transcript, not a lesson summary.
Meetings and interviews
Turn discussion into editable text for your notes. Speaker identification is not included; add names manually.
Screen recordings and tutorials
Create a draft from spoken instructions. Text shown in the interface or picture is not recognized.
Subtitle drafts
Export SRT or VTT to an editor and review wording and timing before publishing. Subtitles are not burned into the video.
Video transcription support and limits
A video needs a decodable audio track. Silent videos cannot produce a speech transcript, and captions visible in the picture are not read. Only the primary audio track is used. Long videos are processed in sections to bound decoded-audio memory, but the model needs memory of its own and speed depends on your device. Accents, noise, music and overlapping speakers can affect results. Model files share the Audio to Text cache. First use needs network access; fully offline operation is not guaranteed.
Video transcription questions
Can I convert MP4 directly to text?
Yes, when it contains an audio track your browser can decode. Choose the video and start recognition without extracting audio first.
Is my video uploaded?
No. File reading, audio decoding and speech recognition run in your browser. Model files and a runtime download on first use, but video and text are not sent to a transcription service.
Can a silent video be transcribed?
No. This tool recognizes spoken audio. It does not read text in the picture or extract embedded or burned-in subtitles.
Can I choose Simplified or Traditional Chinese?
Yes. Select Chinese or use automatic language detection, then choose the Chinese writing style separately. Switching after transcription preserves current edits and timing without running recognition again.
Can I select audio tracks or identify speakers?
This version uses the primary audio track without track selection or speaker identification. Prepare the desired track separately and use Audio to Text if needed.
Why can a video play but fail to transcribe?
Media playback and background audio decoding can have different support. Check the audio codec or try exporting WAV with Audio Extractor, then use Audio to Text.
How do I create subtitles?
Review the video at each timestamp, correct the text and export SRT or VTT for your editor or publishing platform. This tool does not burn subtitles into the video.
Can I paste an online video link?
This page accepts local video files. Save the video through an available, authorized download method first, then select it for transcription.
Is there a limit for long videos?
There is no upload size limit because files stay local. Long videos still take time, memory and battery power. Trim to the section you need first. Cancelling keeps completed transcript sections.
Is it free, and does it work offline?
It is free and requires no account. Loading the tool, runtime and model initially needs a connection. Cached models can be reused, but fully offline operation is not guaranteed.
