How to cut audio online

How to trim an audio file

Choose a file, mark the section on the waveform, preview the edit and export the result—all in your browser.

1

Choose an audio file

Select a recording, song, podcast or voice memo stored on your device.

2

Set the start and end

Drag the waveform handles for a quick selection, or type exact timestamps for a precise cut.

3

Choose what to keep

Keep the highlighted clip, or remove it and join the remaining audio.

4

Preview and export

Listen to the edit, choose a format and quality, then download the finished file.

Audio editing terms

Audio trimming vs. audio cutting

The terms are often used interchangeably, but the intended edit matters more than the label.

Trim the beginning or end

Remove silence, countdowns, mic checks or extra recording time around the part you want.

Cut out a section

Delete a mistake, pause, ad break or sensitive passage from the middle and join the remaining audio.

Create a clip

Keep one exact section for a ringtone, social post, presentation cue or podcast excerpt.

Cut with precise timestamps

Waveform handles are useful for finding the right area quickly. Time fields let you refine the boundaries down to milliseconds. The final boundary may align to the nearest audio sample or encoder frame, so compressed formats can differ by a tiny fraction of a second.

Example: 1:24.350 to 1:42.800

Choose the right output format

All exports are newly encoded. Pick a format based on where the result will be used, not only on file size.

FormatBest forWhat to know
MP3Sharing, uploads and broad playback supportLossy compression; a practical default
WAVFurther editing and uncompressed PCM workflowsLarge file; avoids another lossy encode
M4A (AAC)Modern devices, mobile playback and compact filesLossy compression with good efficiency
FLACLossless storage and compatible editorsLarger than lossy formats
OGG (Opus)Efficient web and voice audioBrowser encoding support can vary

Trim MP3 files online

MP3 is widely supported, which makes it a convenient output for sharing and uploads. FlowPick decodes the source and creates a new MP3 around the chosen boundaries. Because MP3 is lossy, repeated editing and re-exporting can gradually reduce quality; keep the original file and make the final edit in one pass when possible.

What happens to audio quality?

Trimming does not improve the source recording. MP3, AAC and Opus outputs use lossy encoding, while WAV stores uncompressed PCM and FLAC uses lossless compression after decoding. Exporting a lossy source to WAV or FLAC prevents another lossy encode, but it cannot restore detail already removed from the original.

For a file that will be edited again, choose WAV or FLAC. For a finished clip that needs to stay small, choose MP3 or M4A at a suitable quality.

Common reasons to trim audio

Podcast and interview cleanup

Remove false starts, long pauses or an unwanted passage before publishing.

Ringtones and notification sounds

Keep a short, recognizable section and export it in a format your device accepts.

Voice memo cleanup

Cut away the setup and silence around a meeting note, lecture or personal recording.

Music and presentation clips

Prepare a focused excerpt for a slide deck, rehearsal, class or social post.

Your audio stays on your device

Waveform analysis, preview and export run locally in this browser. The selected recording is not sent to a FlowPick processing server. Practical file size and processing speed depend on your device, browser and available memory.

Audio Trimmer FAQ

How do I trim an audio file online?

Choose an audio file, set the start and end on the waveform, select Keep selection, preview the edit and export it. Processing happens in your browser rather than on a remote conversion server.

Can I remove a section from the middle of an audio file?

Yes. Choose Remove selection, mark the unwanted section and preview the result. FlowPick removes that interval and joins the audio before and after it in the exported file.

Can I trim an MP3 file?

Yes. MP3 input is supported when the browser can decode the file. The result is encoded again in the output format you choose, so the process is not a bit-for-bit lossless MP3 cut.

Does trimming reduce audio quality?

MP3, M4A and OGG outputs use lossy compression, so a new encode can introduce some quality loss. WAV and FLAC avoid an additional lossy encode after decoding, but they cannot recover quality already missing from the source.

How precise are the start and end times?

You can enter times down to milliseconds. Actual boundaries are aligned to audio samples and may also be affected by encoder frame structure, so compressed output can vary by a tiny fraction of a second.

Which output format should I choose?

Choose MP3 for broad compatibility, M4A for efficient modern playback, WAV or FLAC for further editing, and OGG when Opus suits your web or voice workflow.

Is there a file size limit?

FlowPick does not impose a fixed upload limit because files are not uploaded. Very large or long files can still exceed the memory or processing capacity available to your browser and device.

Is my audio uploaded to a server?

No. FlowPick analyzes and processes the selected file locally in your browser. The result remains on your device unless you choose to share it elsewhere.
